If you know me, you know I don’t do sports. I was a quiet child who spent her free time in the library or playing with my Betty Spaghetty dolls much to the chagrin of my parents, who signed me up for peewee soccer, tennis, and volleyball. Despite the lack of any athletic ability or talent, I’m obsessed with spring’s sleeper trend: sportswear as fashion.
Hear me out. Big Sports wants you to believe soccer matches and basketball tournaments are for men, but let’s be honest. The girlies are taking over. I’ve seen more and more Gen Z creators, editors, and brands take note of the rising sportswear trend set to explode in popularity before the summer. There are a few offshoots online already (think TikTok’s obsession with Brazilian style and Bella Hadid’s blokecore moment), but at the crux of it all lies nylon tracksuits, Adidas Samba sneakers, and brightly colored jerseys paired with designer handbags and baggy cargo pants.
