The Last of Us finale garners impressive viewership of 8.2 million despite Oscars telecast
According to HBO, The Last of Us’ first six episodes earned an average of 30.4 million viewers since the January 15 premiere, with the debut episode getting 40 million viewers. Looking at the astounding viewership, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that The Last of Us is bigger than House of the Dragon.
As per the report, the Game of Thrones prequel series averaged 29 million cross-platform viewers over the course of its run in the late summer and fall of 2022. The 8.2 million mark on Sunday’s finale is 74.5 percent higher than the 4.7 million gained when the series debuted in January.
Notably, The Last of Us’ total audience of 30.4 million is the biggest for any HBO series since the final season of Game of Thrones, which reportedly averaged better than 44 million viewers over its run in 2019. Meanwhile, The Last of Us was green signaled for a second season announced when only the first two episodes had aired.
