Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, renowned organisation of Muslim scholars in India, has announced that the Ramadan 2023 moon sighting had been conducted in many parts of the country. However, Ramzan Chand has not been sighted anywhere in India. Hence, Shaban month shall complete 30 days on March 23. Subsequently, Muslims in India will observe first Ramadan 2023 fast on March 24.

No reports have been received so far on the Ramadan 2023 moon sighting from Mumbai, Hyderabad and Delhi. If the moon is not sighted, Ramadan 2023 in India shall begin from March 24.
Ruet-e-Hilal committees in Maharashtra’s Malegaon and Jamner have announced that Ramadan 2023 moon has not been sighted. Accordingly, Shaban will complete 30 days tomorrow and Ramzan 1444 fasting shall begin from March 24.
Muslims in many parts of Kolkata, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand are trying to sight the Ramadan 2023 moon. However, the Ramzan Chand has not been sighted so far in any parts of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. The final announcement is awaited.
Maghrib prayers are now being performed. Following the prayers, members of Ruet-e-Hilal committees in different parts of India will meet to check testimonies of the Ramadan moon sighting. Subject to the moon sighting, Ramadan 2023 in India shall either begin from March 23 or March 24.
Ruet-e-Hilal committees in Mumbai, Delhi, Lucknow and other cities of India are expected to make an announcement on the sighting of Ramadan 2023 moon in India. If the moon is sighted this evening, Ramadan 2023 in India shall begin from March 23. In case the Ramzan Chand remains invisible, the fasting shall start from March 24.

In India, Shaban, the month before Ramadan, began from February 22. Accordingly, today, March 22, marks 29th of Shaban. Hence, if the moon is sighted today, Ramadan 2023 in India shall commence from this evening and the first Roza (fast) will be observed on March 23. If the moon is not sighted this evening, Shaban will complete 30 days. In this case, Ramadan 2023 (Ramzan 1444) will begin from the evening of March 23 and Muslims will observe first Ramzan fast on March 24.
