THE UK is known for having some of the finest hotel spas and resorts in the world. But it can be tricky deciding which one is best for you.
Is your idea of a ‘wellness retreat’ a few nights in a luxury hotel, indulging in spa treatments and relaxing around the pool? Or do you hanger after a bit of mental as well as physical restoration?
Luckily the UK has plenty of places to suit just about everyone.
But when it comes to the best of the best there can be only one and according to a new survey by Vaping.com/uk that one is Gleneagles.
They collated a list of the UK’s best wellness retreats, hotels and spas from data collected at the end of 2022 and extracted Tripadvisor ratings and reviews for each.
The Perthshire resort reigned supreme with 4,093 5* Tripadvisor reviews and a 4.5 rating.
The luxury 5* resort has attracted the rich and famous for decades, thanks to its three world-class golf courses, impressive suites and bedrooms, fine food – it has Scotland’s only two Michelin starred restaurant – and, of course, it’s spa.
Treatments there use oils and botanicals sourced from the Perthshire countryside, alongside world leading brands like Dr Barbara Sturm and Tata Harper.
There’s an impressive 20 – yes 20 – treatments rooms where top-class therapists will send you into massage heaven.
Their signature treatment is called The Long Exhale, which they claim will restore equilibrium and inner peace during two hours of warm stone massage, stretches, scrubs, facial and scalp massage.
They also offer The Highland Healer, a 50 minute long massage with hot Basalt stones and muscle soothing oils.
Chewton Glen Hotel & Spa, set in 130 acres of the Hampshire countryside, came second.
The luxury hotel and retreat has 2,198 Tripadvisor 5* reviews out of a total 2,983, making it the ideal place to visit this spring to relax and unwind with a rating of 4.5.
It’s been voted Best Hotel in the British Isles in the past and has a golf, tennis, croquet, gym, 17-metre pool and spa to help you enjoy your stay.
The spa has cold drench showers, aromatherapy saunas, steam rooms and an outdoor whirlpool.
It offers face and body treatments, including classic Swedish and hot stone massages, full-body scrubs and holistic Kundalini and aromatherapy treatments. You can also book pampering for two in one of their double treatment rooms.
In third place is The Grove. Set deep in the countryside but also only 18 miles from central London, it holds a high Tripadvisor rating of 4, with 2,087 reviews rating it 5*.
This retreat in Chandler’s Cross, Hertfordshire, is the lovingly restored former home of the Earls of Clarendon home, unsurprisingly, to the award winning Sequoia Spa.
It has a black mosaic-tiled pool and uses luxury sustainable skin and body care brand Bamford, offering everything from facials and massages to wellness for cancer sufferers.
Hampshire and North Yorkshire feature the most wellness retreats and Perthshire, Hampshire and Hertfordshire come out as the top three locations ranked to visit for the best of them.
