At Harley-Davidson, “race on Sunday, sell on Monday” is more than just a catchy tagline — it’s an actual business model. Capitalizing on the phenomenal popularity of Moto America’s new King of the Baggers series — picture a full-zoot touring bike on steroids racing around the fastest race tracks in the United States — H-D has taken everything it’s learned from the motorsports field in the last two years and is now offering it up to customizers looking to maximize their Milwaukee muscle. That’s right, it’s selling those race engines to you direct in a crate.
Pony up the requisite CDN$10,440 for the Screamin’ Eagle 135ci Stage IV Performance Crate Engine and you’ll get a full 135 cubic inches — that’s a whopping 2,212 cubic centimetres, for those of you still stuck in metric — with 10.7:1 pistons, big-bump camshafts, and an absolutely huge 68-millimetre throttle body. Those upgrades, along with Screamin’ Eagle Extreme CNC-ported cylinder heads, high-capacity 6.8 grams/second fuel injectors, and high-performance valve springs, are responsible for the 41-per-cent upgrade in horsepower and 28-per-cent bump in torque the engine sees compared with a stock Milwaukee-Eight 117 V-twin.

Optional — but recommended — are a classic Screamin’ Eagle Ventilator Extreme air cleaner; and a lightly ‘muffled’ Street Cannon exhaust. Put it all together and you’re sure to realize, if it’s good enough for those crazy King of the Baggers bikes, these crate motors will be in the baddest Harleys on the street. In fact, the numbers make it Harley’s biggest and most powerful engine in its history.
The Screamin’ Eagle 135ci Stage IV Performance Crate Engine bolts into all 2021 or later touring Harleys. Two versions of the new crate engine will be offered: for 2021 and later Touring models equipped with air-/oil-cooled version of the Milwaukee-Eight; and another for Touring models equipped with a Twin-Cooled Milwaukee-Eight engine. The new crate motor does not fit any of Harley’s trikes.
