Aston Martin teases front end of its final V12 Vantage

Aston Martin recently confirmed it would be building but one last V12 Vantage generation. It is expected sometime in 2022 and will be the new flagship of the Vantage models. Now, a teaser image from the British carmaker has given us a glimpse into the upcoming sports car’s design language, at least as far as the front end is concerned.

The new 12-cylinder Vantage is positioned ahead of its predecessors in a partly obscured image that still reveals a few interesting features. First, there is a new front end with a much larger grille, similar to the hardcore Vantage F1 Edition. Vertical air intakes, presumably designed to improve airflow, flank the grille on either side, and there is a prominent front splitter to help with downforce.

Aston Martin has revealed very little about the car’s technical specifications. Still, you can expect decent performance, especially since it will be going up against rivals like the Porsche 911 Turbo S.

The V12 Vantage will be most likely be powered by a version of the carmaker’s twin-turbocharged 5.2-litre V12 engine. It is the same unit shoehorned into the V12 Speedster, Aston Martin’s exclusive series open-top supercar. There, it makes an impressive 690 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. It will not be out of place to expect a similar output for the new Vantage.

By 2030, Aston Martin’s road-going lineup will consist solely of hybrids and EVs, while combustion engines will be restricted to track-only models, a segment that only makes up about five per cent of the automaker’s output. Ever-tightening emissions regulations have sounded a death knell for traditional combustion engines like the V12, and it’s only a matter of time before they disappear altogether. It makes the upcoming V12 Vantage all the more special, and its official debut can’t come soon enough.
