Kareem Abdul-Jabbar isn’t one to criticize basketball players that he likes – and he really likes Steph Curry. But that didn’t stop the NBA icon from lamenting one thing about Curry’s game.
In a recent interview with Charlie Walter, Kareem was asked if young players ever ask him how to use his legendary skyhook shot. Kareem said that they don’t because everyone wants to learn how to shoot three-pointers like Curry does. The six-time NBA champion joked that he wants to slap Curry over how he’s changed the game.
“I’ve got to go across the Bay and slap Steph Curry for him changing everyone’s mind about how to play the game,” Kareem said, via BallIsLife.com.
The skyhook was a near-unblockable shot that Kareem became even more famous for during his NBA career. With a flick of the wrist from an angle no other NBA player could reach, he scored thousands of his 38,387 points with it.

But in recent years, being able to shoot the three has become significantly more important in the NBA thanks in no small part to Curry’s dominance from outside the paint.
The age of being a giant who can reach the basket without needing a layup have been gone for a pretty long time, but Curry and the many three-point stars who have followed in his footsteps have basically buried the skyhook forever.
Kareem is clearly still in mourning over it.
