Gabriel Jesus showed what Arsenal have missed in his absence since the World Cup after that rout at the Etihad Stadium, scoring twice in a 4-1 triumph against Leeds United.
But Arteta reportedly wants to upgrade his attacking options further this summer by targeting Brighton and Hove Albion star Kaoru Mitoma.
Arsenal are said to be eyeing their latest raid of the Amex Stadium by eyeing a £35m swoop for the Japan international this summer.
And like Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, a January import from Brighton, Mitoma has eclipsed Grealish’s numbers in the 2022/23 campaign.
Grealish has improved under Pep Guardiola this term, but four goals and eight assists in 37 appearances are underwhelming by the most expensive British player in history’s standards.
In comparison, Saka, a touted candidate to be named the Premier League Player of the Season, has registered 13 goals and 10 assists in 39 outings.
Martinelli has been just as impressive, also scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in 39 games.
Trossard has made an electric start to life at the Emirates Stadium, recording one goal and seven assists in seven games for the Gunners.
Including his Brighton numbers, the Belgian forward has produced eight goals and 10 assists in 30 appearances this term.
Mitoma scored his latest goal of the season in Brighton’s 3-3 draw against fellow European hunters Brentford on Saturday.
It accumulated his tally to 10 goals and six assists in 28 appearances in what has been a breakout campaign in England.
Arsenal already boast one of the most exciting attacks in the Premier League, which has helped propel them toward their first title since 2004.
Adding Mitoma to his ranks would take Arteta’s project to the next level ahead of a potential title defence.
