Amid the Dallas Mavericks’ recent struggles, Kyrie Irving has remained the center of attention and received a lot of blame for the team’s woes. But what does Kyrie’s boss, Mark Cuban, think about his status with the team?
Speaking to the media today, Cuban made it clear that he supports Kyrie. “I want him to say,” Cuban said.
When asked if he would offer Kyrie a max contract at the end of the season though, Cuban dismissed the question. “I’m not going to negotiate with you,” he replied.
Fans don’t seem too convinced that Cuban really wants Kyrie to stay if he isn’t willing to commit to making Kyrie a max contract player though. Given that non having a max contract was one of the (many) issues Kyrie had with the Brooklyn Nets prior to the blockbuster trade, that may wind up being a pretty non-negotiable issue.

The Mavericks have won just seven games with Kyrie Irving on the court since he joined back in February. Statistically, he’s been as sharp as ever, with a career-high 51-percent field goal rate.
But the fact of the matter is that the Dallas Mavericks have fallen all the way out of the playoffs – going from 31-26 back on February 10 to 37-42 with just three games left to play.
Dallas will need to rally and hope that the Oklahoma City Thunder stumble in order to get that coveted 10-seed in the play-in round. Failing that, heads will almost certainly roll.
What will happen to Kyrie Irving after the season?
