‘A great war,’ cannibalism, civil unrest: Nostradamus’ 2023 predictions

Sixteenth-century French astrologer Nostradamus — aka the “Prophet of Doom” — doesn’t exactly have upbeat predictions for 2023.

Among them “a great war” waged by “evil forces” and “the light on Mars will go out,” reports dailmail.co.uk.

The astrologer’s famous 1555 book, Les Propheties, purported to predict the future with biblical texts and his own experiences of plague, which provided inspiration for his predictions of sorrow and famine.

In some quarters, Nostradamus is believed to have predicted everything from 9/11 to the rise of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

Here’s a look at some of his 2023 predictions:

“Seven months great war, people dead through evil.” Take your pick on this one.

Will Russia’s nearly year-long invasion of Ukraine continue, with Russian President Vladimir Putin raising the stakes by going nuclear? Will China confront the U.S. while invading Taiwan? Will nuclear-capable Pakistan and India engage in war over disputed territory in Kashmir and Jammu?

“The light on Mars will go out.”

Heads up Elon Musk, given his SpaceX company is planning to send people to the red planet by 2026.

“So high will the bushel of wheat rise, that man will be eating his fellow man.”

This grim prediction follows the breakdown in the food supply chain as a result of the pandemic. It could be referring to the war in Ukraine continuing as Putin blockades shipments of grain out of the war-torn country. Or the cost of food, which has soared.

“For 40 years, the rainbow will not be seen. For 40 years, it will be seen every day.” and “The dry earth will grow more parched, and there will be great floods when it is seen.”

Is this a climate change prediction as Europe endured its worst drought in 500 years and The Horn of Africa suffers through its longest and most severe drought?

“Sooner and later you will see great changes made, dreadful horrors and vengeances” and “The trumpet shakes with great discord. An agreement broken: lifting the face to heaven: the bloody mouth will swim with blood; the face anointed with milk and honey lies on the ground.”

The prediction comes as incidents of civil unrest follow a time of increasing tensions around the world.
