The route was closed while responders hosed off the mess

What’s one of the worst things you can accidentally run over in your car? Fetid roadkill? Perhaps a wayward aluminium ladder shed from a load of construction material? After a late-night agricultural spill, a few Nova Scotia drivers can add another entrant to that list: a huge swath of manure.

Local responders were initially called to the scene with reports of several vehicles suddenly and inexplicably deciding to closely examine the roadside shrubbery. Reaching the area, it was found that a truck had managed to spill its load of farming manure all over the roadway, creating very slippery and dangerous driving conditions.

This wasn’t some backwater rural route, however: the spill happened right on the Trans-Canada Highway, specifically a four-lane portion which one must traverse while heading across the province. Many drivers thought this delay was a bunch of BS, though a brief detour was available. Ironically, some were routed through Highway #2. I promise we are not making that up.

Crews were called from nearby Onslow-Belmont Fire brigade who attended to the scene, clearing the road with high-pressure fire hoses. Distressingly, some drivers who made their way through this mess later commented on Facebook that the manure “acts just like slush”, which is a phrase and image we truly hope you are not processing while trying to get through your morning bowl of Wheaties. Indeed, someone posted a picture of its accumulation on their white Ford Edge, and it absolutely seems to have collected on that car’s rocker panel just like a good dose of springtime road slush. You can find that picture on your own, if you wish to sully your eyes.
Local social-media watchers were quick to clear the air once the mess had been removed, advising drivers that the issue had been flushed to history after a few hours’ work by the fire brigade.
