Enjoy poking around in rarely explored artist nooks and home studios? Then this coming Saturday and Sunday (November 12-13) is for you, as dozens of artists and exhibit halls in the East Bay are throwing open their doors to the public.
The second weekend of the annual East Bay Open Studios features 70-plus independent artists and art spaces in more than 12 cities in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. Portraits and abstract paintings, handmade jewelry and ceramics, delightful ladybug lamps and oddly provocative Ken dolls – whatever your fancy, you’ll likely find it in this sprawling event, now in its fourth decade.
The open studios are free and available for self-guided tours. Make sure to grab a directory at one with a map, or consult the online map above (yellow and blue listings are participating this coming weekend).
Here’s what lies ahead, according to the sponsoring organization, Mark Gebhardt’s Studio Productions:

The art-loving, art-buying public enjoys one-on-one interactions with the artists and artisans and have the opportunity to learn about what inspires the artists, connect with the artists one-on-one and purchase art directly from the artists. Artist venues can range from gallery settings, art studios, home studios, outdoor venues and other alternative exhibition spaces. Many artists serve refreshments, some give live demonstrations and some may even have live music.
What’s on display this year? Below are a few samples of what to expect selected mostly at random, as this shindig is ideal for random discoveries:
