A nurse acts out what a consultation with a rape victim might look like following the US abortion ban in this heartbreaking video

Following the overturning of Roe vs Wade in the United States, which abolished the constitutional right to abortion and saw an almost immediate banning of pregnancy termination procedures in countless states, the response from the medical community has unsurprisingly been that of anger, disbelief and grave concern.

One TikTok video, created by nurse practitioner @musclesandnursing, is going viral as a stark reminder of what unwanted pregnancy could look like for young girls affected by sexual violence.

The clip, which shows nurse Jerrod reenacting what a future consultation might look like with a 13-year-old girl who has been raped, sees him talk through the traumatic rules which she could have to abide by and the potential legal implications.

Jerrod originally shared the video as a prediction before the Roe vs Wade ruling, but reshared it following the news on 24 June.

“Hi, my name is Jerrod I’m going to be your nurse. I’m so sorry this is happening to you,” he begins. “While we wait for the other nurse to come in with the rape kit I’ve got a couple of questions to ask you. How old are you? 13? And this was your uncle? Okay.”

He then starts asking some routine pregnancy questions about formula, breastfeeding and prenatal vitamins, before the conversation becomes more and more harrowing.

“We’re also going to need to know if you’re going out of state at any point. If you do we will require a negative pregnancy test. If you do test positive you will be required to have an OBGYN assessment afterwards. You need to be aware that if at any point that you come back and you are not pregnant, there will be an investigation by a board of people appointed by your governor because no medical professional will sit on that board.

“That board is gonna have something called ‘qualified immunity’, meaning you cannot sue them. They are gonna determine if that is a legitimate miscarriage or an illegitimate miscarriage. If at any point they determine that it is not a legitimate miscarriage, you will be prosecuted.”

He then adds: “You also need to be aware that even if it is deemed a legitimate miscarriage, you will be prosecuted.”

The comments on the post vary from fear, to anger and, of course, solidarity. “Terrifyingly a future reality,” one wrote, with another adding: “It’s like a nightmare. I’m in Canada. If anyone needs anything, I will help.”

Responding to a follower who expressed she was feeling scared by the ruling, Jerrod added: “I am too. Things are very dangerous for women and minorities right now.”
