A stone’s throw from some of the city’s most iconic cultural offerings such as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, 5th Avenue shopping, and MoMA, The Park Lane Hotel has laid claim to its enviable address on Billionaires’ Row since 1971. As such, the architectural details of the building are “a unique example of legendary Emery Roth & Sons’ trademark post-war style, reflecting the growth of New York as a world financial and cultural center” says the property’s Managing Director, Prince Sanders. But now, it has seen some modern updates while still maintaining this same historic integrity, thanks to international design firm Yabu Pushelberg.
“Yabu Pushelberg mindfully set forth to restore the existing architectural details of this historic building,” says Sanders, “In doing so, they commissioned New York City-based artists En Viu to create playful murals for the guest rooms and public spaces that artfully guide the hotel experience. The property will feature Central Park’s only roof top bar with views spanning all of Central Park. This space was thoughtfully conceived by Highgate Hotels design team.”
Entering the project with a very clear design direction, Yabu Pushelberg still successfully married aesthetics with function. “What was so remarkable about the process was how open and receptive they were to collaboration,” says Sanders, “As a hotel operator I had to look at each piece of the design to ensure that there would be functionality along with beauty.” The result is a whimsical approach to storytelling through design; an unexpected departure from the neighboring properties.
And while the design and views are exceptional, the dining options are certainly not to be overlooked. “Throughout my career, I’ve always felt that the heart and soul of a hotel is its food and beverage (F&B) program—if the concepts are executed in a dynamic, thoughtful way,” says Arash Azarbarzin, Chief Executive Officer of Highgate. “Specifically, for Park Lane New York, we sought a F&B partner who embraced the new whimsical spirit of the completely reimagined, iconic hotel. In partnership with The Sartiano Group, we’ve created unique hospitality experiences for our guests and locals. Spaces include everything from an exclusive rooftop lounge on the 47th floor that transports you to the chic penthouse of an eclectic aunt to Harry’s New York Bar, where we’ve remixed traditional American cuisine with contemporary flair, including over-the-top martinis and caviar options.”
A unique retreat in the heart of Manhattan, The Park Lane Hotel is a place where “Guests can expect unrivaled service, unexpected moments and most notably—unparalleled, sweeping views of Central Park that will transport them somewhere new. We hope that guests experience a sense of exploration throughout the hotel—as well as when they step foot outside of our doors given our enviable proximity to the natural beauty of Central Park and the city’s cultural hubs,” says Azarbarzin.
