A Wonky Chocolate-Themed Pop Up Launches At Nashville’s Holston House

A Wonky Chocolate-Themed Pop Up Launches At Nashville’s Holston House

Looking for a magical escape just steps away from Downtown Nashville’s Broadway Street? Holston House, a luxury hotel located inside one of the city’s most iconic historic art deco buildings, currently has a pop-up bar experience that just might have the golden ticket you’re looking for.

The on-property bar, Bar TENN, that’s known for its delicious drinks and bites that are often themed depending on the time of the year (you might see a very merry Christmas pop-up here soon enough) has recently been transformed into a candy lovers, chocolate-filled, super wonky experience.

In celebration of the upcoming Wonka movie release, Bar TENN is decked out with all things scrumdiddlyumptious! Filled with vintage candy, supersized florals and mushrooms, chocolate factory-inspired cocktails and interactive food morsels — it’s Wonky Bar.

With ticketed entry from Thursday to Saturday, guests will experience a feast for all the senses from fizzy sweet cocktails to a surprising sleight of hand show with seatings at 6 and 7:30 p.m. For guests just looking to pop in with no agenda, the Wonky Bar is open Sunday through Wednesday from 4 to 11 p.m.

The Wonky Bar is just the start of the pure imagination taking place at Holston House. Those who visit on Sundays, can pop over to the hotel’s onsite restaurant, TENN, where they can pair the bar experience with a Bottomless Chocolate Brunch. This super sweet brunch menu includes baby biscuits & chocolate gravy, chocolate fondue featuring bacon, donut holes, churros, brownie French toast, and more.

The Wonky Bar pop-up has been planned for quite some time according to Jeff Gillick, Director of Sales and Marketing at Holston House. “Our team was in a Strategic Planning Meeting heading into 2023 and collaborating on different ideas for our upcoming experiences,” says Gillick, who thought “what if we “sweetened” Bar TENN and choclified it?” knowing fully that choclified isn’t a real word, but could totally be the beginning of a delicious idea.

The overall experience will be like no other, says Gillick. “We will have a magician / mentalist who will be the spotlight of our entertainment along with a 1930s themed musician,” says Gillick who adds, “We’re excited to pair that with our amazing food and beverage offerings like a Charcuterie Ferris Wheel or a Fizzy Lifting Drink!”

“For the bar, I went outside of the box. Yes, we will have some chocolate drinks, but we also have a Turmeric Margarita,” says Bethany Branfort, Bar and Activations Manager at Holston House. “I infused a simple syrup with turmeric, cinnamon, and some all spice that pairs really well with orange juice and tequila. Our chef also made a chocolate pistachio salami that is absolutely divine and unexpected.”

Other fun menu highlights include:

  • Charcuterie Ferris Wheel with Finocchiona Salami, Blueberry Wensleydale, Kenny’s Chipotle, chocolate pistachio salami, house crackers, and truffles
  • Chocolate River cocktail made with Ballotin Chocolate Bourbon, Xocolatl Mole Bitters, and chocolate
  • Violet, You’re Turning Violet cocktail made with Tito’s Vodka, blueberry liqueur, orange liqueur, and sparkling rose
  • Fizzy Lifting Drink made with Tanqueray Sevilla, citrus, egg white, and Godiva Chocolate Liqueur

The pop-up is open now and will run through early November — with a tentative plan to extend pending public interest.
