- Deepti Sharma ran Charlie Dean out in the 3rd ODI on Sunday
- India beat England by 16 runs in the final match of the series
- Aakash Chopra praised Deepti Sharma for doing the ‘right thing’
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra questioned England and their stand-in skipper Amy Jones after the run-out controversy in the third Women’s ODI between England and India at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
During the dying stage of the match, Deepti Sharma ran Charlie Dean out at the non-striker’s end in a controversial manner. At that point in time, England needed 17 runs to win with one wicket in hand to evade a series whitewash.
Dean backed up a little too much and Deepti showed presence of mind to take the bails off. The hosts lost the match by 16 runs at the Home of Cricket and conceded the three-match series 3-0 to the Women in Blue.
Chopra, in the meantime, posted an old video from England’s T20I against India back in January 2020 at Manuka Oval in Canberra. During that game, Smriti Mandhana was given out caught behind, but the umpires called her back after replays showed that Amy Jones, the wicketkeeper, didn’t take the catch cleanly.
Although Jones apologised later for the mishap, she was greeted with a lot of flak on social media.
Chopra, who played 10 Tests for India from 2003 to 2004, shared a tweet of the video with a caption that read, “Leaving this here. Without comment.”

Earlier, Chopra also backed Deepti for running out Dean in the final match of the series.
“Well done, Deepti Sharma. You did the right thing. And don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. And well done, Team India. The sweet taste of a clean sweep on English soil. Brilliant,” Chopra wrote.
