Aaron Judge is ‘running on anti-gravity treadmill’ but can’t return fast enough for the Yankees as New York is clobbered 14-1 at home by the Orioles

Aaron Judge’s return from injury is said to be progressing, but the Yankees still missed him badly on Thursday as they were clobbered 14-1 at home by the Orioles.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters before the game that Judge, who suffered a torn ligament in his big right toe last month, has been jogging on an anti-gravity treadmill, as well as taking some hard toss batting practice.

The star outfielder has also been playing catch on the field.

Judge may be inching towards a return, but the Yankees were easily beaten by Baltimore as starting pitcher Luis Severino lasted just 2.2 innings on the mound and gave up seven earned runs.

New York registered just six hits in the game, which gave them their fourth loss in seven games.

There is no timetable for Judge’s return, though sources within the organization told the New York Post that the slugger’s recovery is on schedule.

The reigning MVP hasn’t played since June 3, and it’s been tough sledding for his team since that date.

The Yankees are just 13-15 since Judge last saw the diamond, and are eight games back of the Rays’ AL East lead after Thursday’s loss.

While he largely remained healthy the previous two seasons, Judge has struggled somewhat with injuries during his career, as he played just 102 of 162 games in 2019 and less than half of the COVID-shortened regular season in 2020.

The Yankees begin a three-game series vs. the Cubs on Friday.
