Aberdeen fans launched snowballs at HJK Helsinki goalkeeper Niki Maenpaa in their Europa Conference League match on Thursday night, with supporters of the Scottish club told the game would be abandoned if they continued.
A clip of the incident went viral on social media as Aberdeen players could be seen throwing their arms up in the air in frustration and trying to get their fans to stop.
There was a break in play during the clash in Finland to allow snow to be cleared off the pitch – and the home supporters could be heard loudly booing as snowballs were thrown at Maenpaa – who previously played for English clubs Brighton, Bristol City and Stoke City.
A HJK Helsinki staff member addressed the Aberdeen fans over the tannoy and said: ‘Attention please, this is an important security announcement to all spectators.
‘We want to remind you that it is strictly forbidden to throw any kind of objects from the stands to the pitch.’
It has also been reported that the member of staff said that the game would be abandoned if the Aberdeen fans did not stop.
