Pakistan opener Abid Ali has been diagnosed with Acute Coronary Syndrome, having been taken to hospital after suffering chest pains while batting in a first-class game in Karachi.
In a statement, the Pakistan Cricket Board said Ali is currently stable in hospital after receiving his diagnosis.
” Abid was taken immediately to a cardiac hospital where he was diagnosed as a case of Acute Coronary Syndrome,” the statement read.
“He is under the care of Consultant Cardiologist who is liaising with PCB medical team regarding further treatment.”
Ali was batting for Central Punjab in a Quaid-e-Azam Trophy game against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and had made 61 in their second innings before he retired out and was rushed to hospital.

The 34-year-old made his international debut for Pakistan back in 2019 and he has become a regular at the top of the order in Test cricket, amassing 1180 runs in 16 Tests at an average of 49.16.
Ali has been Pakistan’s leading run scorer since his debut and was named player of the series on their recent tour of Bangladesh.
In the two Test series, Ali scored a total of 263 runs at an average of 87.66, including a top score of 133.
Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is an umbrella term for conditions which cause blood flow to the heart to be suddenly blocked.
The NHS states that a heart attack is a form of ACS and lists the three main types as ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), non-ST segment elevation myocardial infarction (NSTEMI) and unstable angina.
As a result of the diagnosis, there has been speculation that Ali’s career could be forced to come to a premature end.
Notably, England batter James Taylor was forced to retire back in 2016 after he was diagnosed with a serious heart condition known as arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy
