It has now been four months since E10 petrol was launched as a cleaner and greener fuel given its 10 percent ethanol content. It replaced the old standard of unleaded petrol, E5, which was redesignated as super unleaded.
With this change, the Government clarified that E5 would still be widely available at larger petrol forecourts, alongside E10 and diesel.
Although E5 is still available, some drivers have been put off, citing the high price of E5 petrol as a reason for being hesitant to switch from E10.
Many drivers have taken to social media to criticise the fuel changes and to compare experiences with the new petrol.
One Twitter user, AutoPap, said: “Drive up to Shropshire this morning.

“Huge power loss too. Means you have to work your engine harder to achieve the same speeds.
“Working hard means using a lot more fuel, so lower miles per gallon too.”
The increased fuel consumption has been noted by many drivers, saying it has led to them needing to buy petrol more often.
One Express.co.uk reader, TwoTone, said: “[E10] will damage all vehicles, classic or modern.
“It will increase fuel consumption, reduce performance and increase engine wear.”
This comes as Formula 1 moves towards an increased dependency on sustainable biofuels.
It is expected that next season, E10 fuel will be used as it contains up to 10 percent ethanol.
According to Motorsport.com, Ferrari estimated that the resulting power loss would be 20 horsepower as the new fuel has forced a redesign of the internal combustion engine.
They claim they have since worked with their fuel partners to recover the lost power of the new petrol.
