‘ABSOLUTE LEGEND’: Kate Beckinsale reveals Keanu Reeves saved her from bodysuit mishap

Kate Beckinsale is remembering a moment of red-carpet kindness from Hollywood nice-guy Keanu Reeves.

The Underworld star took to Instagram to share her return to Cannes last week, 30 years after she appeared at the film fest for the premiere of Much Ado About Nothing.

But in a follow-up throwback post, Beckinsale recalled how Reeves and fellow actor Robert Sean Leonard saved her from an embarrassing mishap during her first appearance in 1993.

“I had bought the bodysuit in the Sock Shop at the airport and when I got in the car to drive to the premiere with Denzel and Pauletta Washington, all the poppers in the crotch popped themselves open and it flipped up like a roller blind,” Beckinsale wrote. “I didn’t feel it was appropriate to go delving around in my undercarriage with all of us in the back of the car so I just quietly panicked.”

Beckinsale continued, “I walked out onto the biggest red carpet of my life and whispered to Keanu and Robert Sean Leonard what had happened. In this picture I am holding the front gusset down and the two of them are holding the back gusset. Absolute legends who may not even have fully understood the physics of what was happening or even heard the word ‘gusset’ before but both jumped in to save me no questions asked.”

“The casual ‘nothing to see here’ expressions are amazing. Well bloody done!” one person commented on the throwback snap, with another adding, “What a great picture with legends and a legendary story!!”

A third follower asked, “Was Keanu Reeves as cool back then as he is now?”

After Beckinsale shared pics of her return to Cannes for the premiere of The Pot-au-Feu, the 49-year-old actress had to shoot down trolls who accused her of undergoing plastic surgery to achieve her flawless look.

“Please tell me you had a facelift because it’s not possible to be this gorgeous at 50,” one fan snarkily commented, to which Beckinsale replied: “No threads, no thread lift, no Botox, no laser, no nose job, no filler.”

She continued, adding: “I would try laser, but I’m a bit scared.”

When another fan dismissed Beckinsale’s response, asking, “Why do celebrities deny their face procedures?” she fired back: “I haven’t had a facelift or filler of Botox. I’m not lying and I don’t have to accept people accusing me of things I haven’t done.”

Meanwhile, Reeves has one of the nicest reputations in Hollywood.

After filming was completed on John Wick: Chapter 4 in 2021, Reeves gifted his four-man stunt team personalized Rolex watches to thank them for their hard work. He also reportedly bought Harley Davidsons for his stunt crew on 2003’s The Matrix Reloaded.

Reeves also famously lent a hand to a pre-fame Octavia Spencer when her car broke down in Los Angeles when she was on her way to an audition.

“I had an audition and my car broke down and no one would help me because my car was so dirty until Keanu Reeves,” she recalled in a 2014 interview on The Meredith Vieira Show. “He was on a motorcycle and had his little motorcycle helmet and sunglasses and was like, ‘Hey, you need some help?’ And I kid you not, I was gonna have him get in and I was gonna push it and he was like, ‘No no I’m gonna push you’ … So he pushed me out of the street.”
