NBA commissioner Adam Silver spoke with the media before Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night, addressing, among other topics, the pending punishment of Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant.
Morant has been suspended indefinitely from the Grizzlies after he was depicted brandishing a gun in a video on Instagram Live in May. It was Morant’s second suspension for having a gun on social media. this year.
Tonight, Silver told reporters that the league is waiting until the conclusion of the Finals before revealing Morant’s penalty.
“We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information. We probably could have brought it to a head now, but we’ve made the decision that it would be unfair to these players and these teams to announce that decision in the middle of this series,” Silver said, via ESPN’s Tim MacMahon.

Judging by these quotes, and some subsequent ones from Silver, it sounds like a significant suspension will be forthcoming.
More Adam Silver on Ja Morant: “I don’t think we yet know what it will take to change his behavior.” He emphasizes the need for Morant, Grizzlies and people around him to “create better circumstances” moving forward.

However long Morant is sidelined, here’s hoping he has finally learned his lesson.
