An Audience With: Adele surprised by former teacher in audience

Adele has shared her fear that her young son will grow to ‘hate’ her recent chart topping, divorce inspired album when he becomes a teenager.

The 33-year-old award winning singer is proud mother to nine-year-old Angelo who she shares with 47-year-old ex-husband Simon Konecki who she split from in 2019 and finally divorced this year.

Adele’s latest critically acclaimed album, titled 30, featured lyrics about her marriage breakdown – with the singer branding her now ex-husband “lazy” and blasts his “complacency”.

And while Adele has been praised for her honest lyrics, it seems like she might have some concerns about what her young son will really think of the songs when he is a little older.

She told The Sun: “It is very personal and he probably will go through stages of hating it as a teenager. But it was an important part of the puzzle I was trying to figure out of my life, so I had to include it.

“In the song, when I say, ‘I don’t really know what I’m doing’ – imagine hearing that as a six-year-old. ‘What’d you mean you don’t know what you’re doing?’

“You’d panic and your whole world would implode. But I was just trying to be clear with him and be honest with him. It was very intense, for sure.”

Angelo himself features on the latest album – with voice notes between him and the singer adding new dimensions to her work.

On third track, titled My Little Love, Adele is heard saying to her son: “Mummy’s been having a lot of big feelings recently. I feel a bit confused.”

When Angelo asks why, Adele replies, “I feel like I don’t really know what I’m doing.”

Angelo then asks: “Oh, at all?” – with Adele replying: “At all.”

Simon fares less well on the album with a number of barbs seemingly about him cropping up in lyrics throughout the record.

During track nine, titled Woman Like Me, hears the songstress belt out the words: “Complacency is the worst trait to have, are you crazy? / It is so sad a man like you could be so lazy.”

Away from he lyrics, Adele has been quite the open book about her failed marriage while promoting the album in recent weeks.

Despite the brutal lyrics, the singer told Oprah Winfrey in an interview that aired last month: “I think Simon probably saved my life, to be honest and came at such a moment where the stability that him and Angelo have given me, no-one else would ever been able to give me.

“Especially at that time in my life I was so young and I think I would have got a bit lost in it all of it.

“I could have easily have gone down some dodgy paths and self-destructive by being so overwhelmed by it and he came in and he was stable, the most stable person I have ever had in my life up until that point.

“Even now I trust him with my life. Him and Angelo were angels sent to me, that’s how I feel.”
