Adele reveals reasons for her Vegas residency cancellation

Plans for Adele’s long delayed Las Vegas residency to be rescheduled have been thrown into chaos as the venue she is due to perform in has laid off all its staff.

The 34-year-old Rolling In The Deep singer had been due to begin a series of intimate gigs at the iconic Colosseum venue in Caesars Palace earlier this year.

However she cancelled at the last minute – leaving some fans thousands of pounds out of pocket, but with a promise that she would return to the venue at some point this year.

But now reports have suggested that there might be no time for Adele to take to the stage now that staff have been let go for the summer season.

According to The Sun: “Union officials representing staff at the Colosseum confirmed members of the team had been told to go home until September.”

Mirror has contacted the Colosseum and Caesars Palace for comment.

Adele suggested to fans during a TV interview back in February that her residency “has to happen this year” – but the year is already almost half-way over.

If staff at the Colosseum are out of action until September, it is expected they will return to work on Sir Rod Stewart’s planned residency – which is due to take place on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from September 23 until October 1.

Other reports have suggested Adele could move her performances to the nearby Planet Hollywood, however it is due to host performances from John Legend and Shania Twain.

Meanwhile, The Colosseum continues to promote the planned gigs by Adele.

The site states: This residency announcement comes on the heels of Adele recently releasing her fourth studio album 30 on Columbia Records.

“The album is being heralded by fans and critics alike as Adele’s boldest and most ambitious album yet. 30 debuted at #1 on album charts in 30 countries and is already one of the biggest selling albums of 2021.”

However, the website goes on to state: “All events originally scheduled for Weekends with Adele at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace from January 21, 2022 through April 16, 2022 have been postponed.”

Adele abruptly cancelled her residency shows in January this year – with conflicting stories emerging from behind the scenes.

While an initial excuse of a Covid outbreak had been used to explain the sudden axing of the gigs, it later was suggested that the singer had a diva meltdown over the set that had been built for her to sing in.

She reportedly raged over the stage design, saying the final design looked more like an ‘old pond’ and ended up allegedly ‘refusing to take part’.

An insider said at the time: “Adele described the pool as a ‘baggy old pond’ and refused, point blank, to stand in the middle of it.

“The intention was to fill it with water on the set as she was lifted up on a crane-type mechanism, creating the illusion she was floating on water.”
