ABU DHABI, 12th January, 2023 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has stepped up its efforts to raise awareness of the provisions of Law No. 33 of 2021 regulating labour relations and its regulations, which came into force on 2nd February, 2022, by delivering lectures in labour camps, with the aim of reaching out to the widest possible range of workers, and introducing them to the rights and obligations stipulated by the law.
The said efforts are part of the expanded outreach campaign launched by the ADJD in implementation of the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, to consolidate the legal literacy in view of its important and efficient role in the preservation of rights and performance of duties according to the laws in force in the country.
In this context, the campaign carried on its activities by giving a lecture in Al Mafraq labour camp, where the most important provisions of the new UAE labour law were highlighted. During the lecture, the informative material was delivered in an interactive way and quizzes were held, after which incentive prizes were distributed to the participants, to ensure that the desired effect was achieved among the target groups.
The lecture also highlighted the multiple guarantees provided by the Labour Law to achieve balance in the labour market, in addition to the great flexibility ensured in the appointment of workers in companies and establishments in accordance with the specified controls and conditions, while preserving the interests of both parties to the contractual relationship, and without prejudice to the terms of the contract in the event of a desire to terminate the contract, whether by the worker or the employer.
The awareness-raising lecture also addressed the steps to be taken in case of a labour dispute, by approaching the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation directly and filing a complaint through the channels available to try to resolve the dispute amicably, and, should conciliation and amicable settlement prove impossible, the complaint will be referred to the Labour Court to adjudicate the case in accordance with the law.
