ABU DHABI, 19th December, 2022 (WAM) — The Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) has launched an extensive awareness campaign for workers in labour camps in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, aiming to further the dissemination of legal culture among workers and to make them aware of their rights and duties guaranteed by the law in the UAE, particularly with the implementation of the provisions of Law No. 33 of 2021 regulating labour relations and its regulations, which came into force on 2nd February, 2022.
Youssef Saeed Al Abri, Under-Secretary of ADJD, said that the expansion of awareness campaigns towards various groups of society is prompted by the important role undertaken by the ADJD in cooperation with its strategic partners to maintain security and stability, in accordance with the directives of H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, to consolidate legal knowledge due to its essential role in protecting the rights and fulfilling the duties stipulated by law.
He explained that the outreach campaign for workers, which will evolve over a full year to cover labour camps in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, takes on special significance with the implementation of the new labour law, shedding light on the most important provisions of the law and the scope of its application, the new work models it has introduced, the great flexibility it guarantees in the employment of workers in institutions and companies, in addition to the guarantees it offers and that achieve a balance between the rights and obligations of workers and business owners.
Al Abri noted that the awareness campaign aims to reach a large segment of workers to raise their legal awareness level in view of the new legislation and the pioneering judicial system, and its importance in safeguarding the interests of both parties to the contractual relationship, to foster an attractive environment for investment and skilled labour.
The campaign was launched in the presence of many workers in (ICAD) labour camp where a lecture was delivered in three languages, namely Arabic, Urdu and Bengali, to highlight the most important articles of the new UAE labour legislation, while presenting the topic in an interactive manner. In addition, competitions were organised and incentive prizes were distributed to participants to achieve the desired benefit for the target group.
