Adrián Parras from Valladolid led the delegation of the Castilla y León clubs in the Spanish Cross Country Championship of the Federation of Athletes with Intellectual Disabilities (FEDDI).

The young 21-year-old athlete was proclaimed champion of Spain in Santander, in the absolute test of 5,000 meters with a brilliant time of 15:51.

The long-distance runner from Club Deportivo Campo Grande was the only athlete who managed to go under 16 minutes on the route set up on the Magdalena Peninsula in the Cantabrian capital, and surpassed Carmelo Herrería (16:08) and José Martínez Morote (16 :26).

“Champion again, it’s amazing,” acknowledged the man from Valladolid, who repeated his victory in the Nacional de Cross, after winning it in 2021 in Dos Hermanas (Seville).

Since then, Parras’s sporting career has led him to become an international FEDDI athlete, to be in the California Cross World Championship last November, where he contributed to the gold medal in Spain; and to be summoned at the regional level by the Castilla y León Athletics Federation as a substitute in the Castilian and Leonese national team at a normalized level.

The athlete from the Castilla y León Adapted Sports Federation (Fedeacyl) dreams of maintaining his progression and being in the Paris Games in 2024, and continuing to prove himself in the 5,000m, his “favorite” test.

The participation of CD Campo Grande was completed by Diego Postigo from Segovia, another of the best athletes at the regional level, who finished in ninth position -and among the best- with a time of 17:38.

The other club representing the community was the CD Puentesaúco from Burgos. The Aspanias club achieved the national runner-up in the category of sports skills in 1,000 meters and thanks to the good work of Jesús López, Miguel González, Bernard Iulian. The three athletes gave a prestigious silver medal to Puentesaúco, one of the traditional clubs already in the cross country event.

The team from Burgos also had two athletes in the adapted category on the Santander track, thanks to Guillermo Crespo and David Alonso, who completed a 3,000-meter course.

The Santander Spanish Championship will have 160 athletes belonging to 18 clubs, including both Castilians and Leonese.
