Through his first five NBA seasons, New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson has only appeared in 114 career games. He’s also been named to the All-Star team twice, a testament to both his talent and his potential.
As the injury issues persist for Williamson, speculation has grown about the Pelicans trading him. Some believe that the team would be able to get a great return for Williamson while he still has value, offloading a depreciating asset in the process.
ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski says he doesn’t think Williamson being traded is likely, but admits that it’s not an impossible scenario.
“I won’t rule anything out … but I would be really, really surprised if Zion Williamson is not on New Orleans’s opening night roster.”@wojespn spoke with @ryenarussillo about the latest he’s hearing regarding Zion and the Pelicans.

“Unless you’re getting in at two or three in the draft, and I don’t think they’re going to get in at two or three, I would be surprised [if Williamson is traded],” Wojnarowski said on the Ryen Russillo Podcast.
“I wouldn’t rule anything out,” Wojnarowski continued. “But I would be really, really surprised if Zion Williamson is not on New Orleans’ opening night roster.”
Williamson hasn’t played since suffering a hamstring injury in January, an injury that at the time seemed minor. It would eventually cost Williamson the rest of the season.
The Pelicans have obviously invested a lot into Williamson, and he is a great player when healthy.
They would need to get an offer they absolutely can’t refuse in order to trade him, and that doesn’t seem likely to happen before the start of the upcoming season.
