A veteran porn star has died aged 51, reportedly from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Joey Ray was described as having ‘a heart of gold’ by a friend, who added that “he was going down a bad path” before he passed away.
Fellow adult entertainer Seth Gamble paid tribute to his long term pal admitting anybody who knew Ray “knows that he had some flaws” but that he was “one of the funniest guys I ever knew.”
Tributes were paid to the Bang Bros performer, who died on Saturday evening, according to AVN.
Gamble told the publication: “I met Joey when I was 18 years old, him and Dale [DaBone] were the first people to shoot me.
“It was kind of like, let’s take this kid under our wing and show him what we know, good and bad.
“I was green when I met them and they definitely showed me how to toughen up my skin for the industry that we’re in.”
Gamble said Ray was a creative guy who loved being in the business and “had a heart of gold.”

He said: “I only want to say what I knew about him that was good. He was one of the funniest guys I ever knew—he would have you just p***ing in your pants.
Porn actor and director Dale DaBone, who had also lost touch with Ray, paid tribute in a Facebook video.
He said: “I don’t even know what to think right now. It was easy when I kind of cut everything off, I was thinking of all the bad things that happened.
“But now the only thing I can think of is 25 years of all the fun, crazy, dumb sh*t that we used to do and all the silly sh*t that we used to do.
“And we always had each other’s back. All those times … that’s all I can think about right now.”
The star recalled how he and Ray used to tell people they were brothers and how “everybody believed it because we were such close friends.”
Ray starred in movies and became a key director for porn film studio Bang Bros and for gay network BigDaddy.com.
He gained more than 700 credits in the adult entertainment industry after starting his career in 2000.
Ray also won the AVN Award for Best Couples Sex Scene for his performance with Taylor Hayes in Fade to Black.
