After 15 years, Indian cricket team may tour Pakistan in 2023

The Indian cricket team may tour Pakistan after a 15-year hiatus, according to the BCCI, ahead of its crucial Annual General Meeting (AGM) on October 18 in Mumbai.

The BCCI has decided to share an overview of the previous year’s work with all state unit delegates, as well as plans for the future and schedules for the national team’s tours, including the Asia Cup in Pakistan next year.

The Indian team will compete in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup (South Africa), the ICC Women’s U-19 T20 World Cup (South Africa), the Asia Cup (Pakistan), and the ICC Cricket World Cup, India, according to the report.

With England, Australia, West Indies, and Sri Lanka having already toured Pakistan in recent years, it will be interesting to see how things play out, as the BCCI will require permission from the central government to allow the team to travel to Pakistan.

“Obviously, when the time comes, it will be a government decision. But there is one aspect. The government allows India versus Pakistan contests in global and continental events. So there is a chance of India travelling but it will be too early to completely commit that a team will go to Pakistan. But putting it on report is a broad hint,” a senior BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

The Asian Cricket Council is currently led by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, and his decision will carry significant weight in the future. The two neighbours last played a bilateral white-ball match in 2012, when Pakistan toured India for three Twenty20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals.

India last visited Pakistan for the 50-over Asia Cup in 2008. Bilateral cricket ties were suspended due to political tensions between the two countries.
