Lip plumpers are having a big moment right now, and it’s easy to see why. From lip glosses to lip balms and even to serum-like concoctions that promise long-term results – it’s safe to assume that any beauty obsessive has at least one lip plumping product in their makeup kit. It’s a great way to add a little extra oomph to your pout, whether you prefer to use it as a finishing touch or as a way to prep your lips for your favourite lipstick and lip liner.
But first things first, let us make a few things clear:
a) Lip plumpers are not an alternative for lip fillers and it’s unlikely that you’ll get similar results. Although they’re designed to boost blood flow to the lips – which in turn does make your lips appear slightly fuller due to the increased production of collagen – the result is temporary at best and is not in any way comparable to what you would get with cosmetic lip-enhancing procedures.
b) You shouldn’t feel like you need to make your lips appear bigger and you absolutely shouldn’t let the toxic societal beauty standards dictate what makes you attractive. But of course, when it comes to your body (or lips in this case), you are the only person whose opinion matters most and if you want to embrace juicy, plumped up lips – go for it.
Best lip plumpers at a glance – our top picks:

The good news is that lip plumpers have evolved enough for them not to be the cause those unpleasant and unwanted burning sensations and irritations. Newer formulas have ditched old-school ingredients such as cinnamon and mint in favour of hyaluronic acid and vitamin E, making them as gentle and effective as ever (not to mention, moisturising).
To help you make a more informed decision, we’ve put together a full edit of all the best lip plumpers available. As committed beauty testers, we made sure to include a variety of different formulas that meet the needs of varying budgets and preferences too. So, hopefully there will be something on this list for everyone. Enjoy.
