ABU DHABI, 19th January, 2023 (WAM) — Major General Dr. Ahmed Naser Al Raisi, INTERPOL President and Inspector General at the UAE Ministry of Interior, received on Wednesday Surangel Whipps Jr., President of the Republic of Palau, in Abu Dhabi.

During the meeting, Al Raisi and President Whipps discussed the growing need for international collaboration to better combat transnational crimes. They discussed the important role of INTERPOL in a world of borderless crimes, as well as the cutting-edge technologies INTERPOL is deploying to better support countries across the globe.

They also emphasised that climate change must be prominent in all strategic conversations around law enforcement. In particular, they discussed increasing pressures on police and emergency responders as climate change related disasters increase, as well as how to best secure and protect increasingly precious environmental resources.

President Whipps also spotlighted the climate change issues directly impacting island nations like Palau.

The two sides agreed to further increase collaborative efforts to tackle pressing criminal issues such as environmental crimes and illegal trafficking.
