Aimee Lou Wood’s heartwarming response to Emma Mackey’s BAFTA win proved they’re friendship goals

Aimee Lou Wood and Emma Mackey proved to be ultimate friendship goals during the EE 76th British Academy Film Awards.

Both the Sex Education stars were nominated for the EE Rising Star award, and when Emma was announced as the winner from the batch of talented actors, which also included Naomi Ackie, Sheila Atim and Daryl McCormack, there was no disappointment on Aimee’s end, as was evident when she kept blowing air kisses to Emma and emotionally mouthing “love you” as she made her way to the stage to collect her coveted gong.

Aimee looked so happy for her friend during her big moment, and, honestly, that is what friendship is truly about. The sweet moment was picked up by viewers at home, with one person tweeting: “Aw Aimee crying watching Emma give her speech #BAFTAs”. Another added: “Emma and aimee got me crying #BAFTAs,” while a third added: “Aimee Lou Wood cheering for Emma Mackey has just reminded me of the bus scene in Sex Education and my heart ???? #BAFTAs.”

While both Aimee and Emma came to public recognition with their roles as BFFs in Netflix’s Sex Education, they have both forged successful acting careers on their own accord. Aimee won critical acclaim starring alongside Bill Nighy in the 2022 drama film Living. Meanwhile, Emma has starred in the biographical drama film Emily and the mystery Death on the Nile in 2022. She will soon be seen in the new Greta Gerwig film Barbie alongside Ryan Gosling and her doppelganger Margot Robbie.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s Sex Education will soon return to the streaming service for its fourth instalment with Emma’s character Maeve off to the USA, leaving Otis (and us) wondering where their relationship stands. The next series is so hotly anticipated and will also see Dan Levy and Jodie Turner-Smith joining the cast!

We’re so excited about that, but in the meantime, we’d love Emma to take some time out and enjoy her new BAFTA award in the company of her best friend, Aimee!
