Air fryer canned potatoes are ‘so crispy’ and rival ‘proper’ roasties – recipe

Almost anything can be cooked in an air fryer but when it comes to tinned foods, there are few foods to choose from.

Potatoes, however, are one exception. The incredibly low-priced goods can be transformed from soft-boiled spuds to a flavoursome side dish in just a few minutes.

And one money-saving cook has a quick, foolproof recipe that anyone can follow. Sharing the method on her blog Katy Kicker, the Ninja Foodi owner claimed that they’re “perfect” for a “frugal” meal.

She said: “Ideal if you’re perhaps not up for peeling fresh potatoes and prepping them yourself, or even just want a super fast side dish to prepare in just a few seconds.

“This particular recipe takes just seconds to prepare and you’ll be shocked at the results you can achieve too.”

Before cooking the potatoes, drain them from the can and rinse the spuds several times to remove any residue.

Cut any larger potatoes in half or thirds to ensure the baby potatoes are all the same size. Once chopped, dry the uncooked potatoes with a clean towel.

Spritz with vegetable oil to coat the skins and season with plenty of salt and pepper to taste. It’s important not to add the other seasonings at this point.

Transfer the salted potatoes to a clean air fryer basket and cook for 12 minutes at 180C.

Then, sprinkle in one-quarter of a teaspoon of dried parsley, garlic powder and the optional paprika or rosemary.

Spray with a little more cooking oil and shake the fryer basket to coat the spuds with the flavourings.

Then return to the air fryer and cook for a further 10 minutes at a higher heat of 200C.

Katy said: “They are so crispy on the outside, almost as good as “proper” roast potatoes made from fresh potatoes! I love the crisp outer edge and the soft fluffy potato inside too.”
