Airline reveals major shakeup for flights from Scots city – and people won’t be happy

A MAJOR UK airline has announced a major shakeup for people travelling from a Scottish airport – and passengers won’t be happy.

British Airways (BA) has announced that they are cutting down the number of flights heading down south this winter.

The airline has halved the number of flights between Inverness and London Heathrow, starting on October 29.

Instead of two flights a day, BA will only offer one flight per day between the two cities for passengers this winter season.

As a result, workers will no longer be able to travel from Inverness to Heathrow and back within the same day.

According to the Strathspey Herald, the change was first brought to light after a passenger had their flight to the UK capital on November 24 cancelled.

They said: “I’m not sure just exactly what is happening here but we seem to be losing flights at a considerable rate of knots, all to benefit the airlines and without a thought to passengers.”

BA explained that the change was made for “commercial reasons” after the airline “reviewed” their schedule.

A spokesman for BA said: “We regularly review our schedule and for commercial reasons, we have made the decision to reduce our flights to Inverness to a daily one-rotation service.

“We’re contacting affected customers to apologise and offer them alternative options, including rebooking or a full refund.”

The change was first announced back in May when BA explained the number of flights would be reduced.

At the time they said it came after a challenging time for the industry.

BA has been approached by the Scottish Sun.

Recently we told how Loganair will relaunch its popular Kirkwall, Orkney to Fair Isle route for its summer 2024 itinerary.

The National Trust for Scotland run Fair Isle airport, which is one of the UK’s smallest.

It will be the first time since March 2019 commercial flights flew out to the small island.

Fair Isle is located between Shetland and Orkney. It is home to a population of 60 people making it one the Britain’s most remote inhabited islands.

It will start flying to the island from May 20 to September 2 – operating two times a week.
