Aizawl, on the other hand, suffered a 1-2 defeat against group favourites Hyderabad FC. The side entered the group as the least favourite to progress to the semifinals in presence of other heavyweights in the group, including East Bengal, as they finished seventh in the I-League 2022-23. Only one club will progress to the semis from the group.

Odisha FC coach Clifford Miranda would be hoping that their star players get their act together and earn the team the much-needed four points if they want to reach the knockout stages and grab that AFC Cup qualification spot. A lot will rely on Diego Mauricio, who has been their star striker with 12 goals in 21 appearances for the Kalinga Warriors.

His understanding with Nadhakumar is also crucial as they combined in 18 of the Kalinga Warriors goals last season. “The environment is good. The players have been working well in the training sessions,” said coach Miranda ahead of the game.

“I believe in this squad as they are a bunch of extremely talented individuals. They are responding well to how we have discussed when we face our opponents in the game and we are hoping for a very favorable result this afternoon.”

Aizawl FC coach Caetano Pino, meanwhile, is loving the tag of the underdogs and said his club will do everything possible to stay in contention for the game as they have nothing to lose in the game.
