Sharma was forced to leave the chairman of selectors post in February after a controversial sting operation caught the former India pacer revealing team secrets. SS Das, member of the panel, has been the acting chief selector since Sharma left the role.

However, a week ago BCCI posted the application, inviting candidates for the role on their social media accounts. The last date to apply for the job was June 30, when the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of BCCI will meet to pick women’s head coach and the selector.

As per a report from PTI, the CAC may not pick the coach on June 30 but the matter will surely be discussed in the meeting, but they will be picking one of the candidates for the selectors post.

“The CAC has the mandate to pick a selector who can stand up to the high profile team management in case there are differences,” said the BCCI official.

The report also added that the BCCI is likely to do away with the zonal limit for the selectors post as Agarkar, if selected will become the second member from the West Zone after former India pacer Salil Ankola.

The BCCI also want a big name to fill up the void left by Sharma and, hence want to pick Agarkar, who had earlier applied for the post, to take the chairman’s post.
