DOHA, Nov 8, (Agencies): Ajyal Film Festival, Qatar’s unmissable annual gala of film, music, art and pop culture, kicked off in Katara Cultural Village on Sunday night to screen 85 films, including 54 short ones, from 44 countries. Director of the festival and CEO of Doha Film Institute Fatema Al-Romeihi said the world seemed to have almost been on pause for the last two years but the Institute continued working hard to overcome the numerous challenges.
“We were able to continue the march and build on previous successes,” she told reporters, voicing hope that this year’s festival will be bursting back to life with venues and experiences all over Doha for the audience to enjoy. The opening night saw a special screening of the award winning “A Hero,” a French-Iranian movie jointly produced by Alexandre Mallet-Guy and Asghar Farhadi and directed by Farhadi in 2021. The seven-day gala event lasts until November 13 will also feature a sideline gallery themed “We will never leave,” in tribute to the struggle of the Palestinian people.
