Akshaya Tritiya marks the beginning of Treta Yuga after the end of Satya Yuga. According to Hindu mythology, Akshaya Tritiya was the day when the epic tale of Mahabharata-Karma and Dharma started getting written by Rishi Ved. • Preparing the Akshate: On this day, people observe fast and prepare Akshate. On this day, devotees smear grains of unbroken rice with Haldi or turmeric and kumkum. This preparation is offered to Lord Vishnu on this day. It is believed that the preparation brings good luck to the family.
• Charity: On this day, people do charity, they distribute food grains, clothes, jaggery, and other items to the underprivileged. Hindu scriptures say that charity brings good fortune for the entire year.
• Invest in gold: On the auspicious day of Dhanteras, people buy gold and silver to bring prosperity and happiness to their lives.
• Puja, Japa and Yajya: Devotees on this day chant prayers dedicated to Lord Vishnu, Ganesha to bring prosperity. People also do Pitra Tarpan, according to the NDTV report to pay respect to their forefathers.
• Naivedyam thali: Special food is prepared on this day to offer to the gods. Naivedyam thali usually consists of milk and milk products including kheer, ghee, curd and sweets. Coconut based food items and rice is also part of the thali.
