The Magpies take on the Red Devils at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final, with Eddie Howe’s looking to end 54 years without a trophy.
Erik ten Hag’s side beat Barcelona on Thursday to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League and they’re an outside bet in the Premier League title race.
Newcastle’s season has taken a downturn in recent weeks, with the Magpies winning just one of their last five matches in the Premier League.
But Shearer believes the return of Bruno Guimaraes after a three-match ban, plus Manchester United’s vulnerability in defence, could see the Magpies in at Wembley.
‘Do I think Newcastle are good enough? Yes, I do,’ said Sherare.
‘Bruno [Guimaraes] is back, which is a big plus.
‘What will give Newcastle hope is if you look at Manchester United’s form, particularly against Leicester.
‘Leicester could’ve had two or three goals so hopefully that will be positive for Newcastle.’
Marcus Rashford is an injury doubt after limping out of Thursday’s win against Barcelona at Old Trafford.
Anthony Martial has been ruled out, while Newcastle could be without Callum Wilson from the start.
