Anthony Albanese had nothing but good things to say about Carrie Bickmore during the presenter’s last day behind The Project desk.

The Prime Minister joined the show via video link to share some kind words about Ms Bickmore, saying “this is Carrie’s day”.

“I just wanted to say just a big shout out for your warmth and your humanity that just shone through,” Mr Albanese said.

“You talk about stories there, but you always shone through with the people behind the stories and what it really meant and that made a difference.”

“That’s why people like you, that’s why people feel like they know you, because you weren’t frightened of showing a lot of yourself on screen and in the way that you interviewed people.”

Mr Albanese also praised Ms Bickmore’s advocacy work during her time on the show, particularly her work raising money and awareness for brain cancer.

“Also the way that you talked about issues, like brain cancer, and did such an extraordinary job raising awareness but also raising important funds,” he said.

After thanking the Prime Minister for his kind words, Ms Bickmore countered his praise of her advocacy work by continuing to fight for the cause that’s so important to her.

“My parting words to you would be please keep the brain cancer mission, please keep funding it and please keep the pressure on so we can find a cure,” she said.

Earlier in the show, Ms Bickmore fought back tears while speaking about the fundraising efforts for brain cancer she had undertaken through the show after the death of her husband Greg in 2010.

“I will forever be thankful to The Project, but also to our viewers at home for your support and for making our foundation what it is today. We have now raised over $20 million and that would not have happened if it weren‘t for this place, if it weren’t for Greg and it weren’t for you watching at home – so thank you very, very much,” she said.

Mr Albanese then told The Project hosts to enjoy the farewell party, saying it sounded “more fun than Parliament House”.
