For anyone who thought that Alec Baldwin had learned patience, kindness and humility after enduring the trauma of accidentally killing another human being, you might want to think again.
The actor, who is famous for his belligerence towards anyone who crosses him, berated a young female server at the 2023 PEN America Spring Literary Gala Thursday night, Page Six reported. Her offense? She began to set out guests’ dinner plates while he was still standing and talking to someone, a witness told Page Six. Baldwin’s scolding left the young woman visibly “shocked” and upset, a witness said.
A short time earlier, Baldwin and his influencer wife, Hilaria Baldwin, were all smiles as they walked the red carpet at the gala, which took place at New York City’s American Museum of Natural History. The gala was Baldwin’s first public appearance since prosecutors in New Mexico dismissed involuntary manslaughter charges against him in the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of his Western “Rust.”
As Page Six said, the controversial couple “flaunted” their love as they posed for photos. The “30 Rock” actor and father of eight was in a tuxedo, and his yoga instructor wife was in a black gown. At one point, they wrapped their arms around each other, and Baldwin was seen sweetly kissing Hilaria on the forehead.
Baldwin’s conflict with the server began when Baldwin stood up to talk to someone, just before a line of servers arrived “all at once” to deliver people’s meals, the source told Page Six.
One female server, who “was probably in her late 20s or early 30s,” found herself stuck behind the actor, who continued to stand and talk.
“Then, when she could pass, she started putting plates on the table,” the source told Page Six. “I guess he didn’t like that she did that with him standing there.”
The next moment, Baldwin allegedly started “scolding her,” the source said. After the alleged encounter, the server was overheard telling someone: “I don’t know why he yelled at me.”
The source guessed that Baldwin felt it was rude of her to start setting down the plates while he was still standing and talking. “It was quick,” the source told Page Six. “I think it went unnoticed for the most part.”
The source said that Hilaria Baldwin was not present during the encounter. Representatives for the actor and the event did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
Baldwin was at the event to help honor his friend, “Saturday Night Live” producer Lorne Michaels, who received a PEN/Audible Literary Service Award. Author Salman Rushdie also was a surprise guest and was honored at the event.
