Aleksei Oleinik shocks with comeback neck crank submission of Jared Vanderaa (Video)

44-year-old Aleksei Oleinik chokes out Jared Vanderaa at UFC 273.

It wasn’t an easy first few minutes for the veteran Aleksei Oleinik at UFC 273, but he survived early trouble to secure another submission on his record.

Jared Vanderaa stepped up on short notice against Oleinik after Ilir Latifi pulled out. Vanderaa proved to be a game opponent for Oleinik and nearly had him in big trouble in the grappling early in the fight.

After failing to secure a triangle choke, Vanderaa fell victim to a neck crank from the prestigious grappler Oleinik after giving up his back. Despite having some early success on the feet, Vanderaa proved to be no match for Oleinik in the grappling aspect of the fight.

Age is just a number for the UFC veteran Aleksei Oleinik

Oleinik came into the fight having lost three straight in the octagon, including most recently against Sergey Spivac last June. He also suffered TKO finishes to knockout artists Chris Daukaus and Derrick Lewis.

Oleinik has earned wins against some of the best heavyweights in UFC history, including Fabricio Werdum and Travis Browne.

Vanderaa stepped up on short notice after a split decision loss to former champion Andrei Arlovski at UFC 271. The former Dana White’s Contender Series standout has just one win in his UFC tenure, defeating Justin Tafa via a unanimous decision last May.

Oleinik made his UFC debut way back in June 2014 when he secured a first-round neck crank submission of Anthony Hamilton. Eight years later, he’s proven to still be a force in the heavyweight division and a grappling matchup nightmare for most contenders.
