I find the idea of supplements SO overwhelming. Where do you even start?
Before I started on this journey with NobleBlu, I’ve always been somebody that’s taken supplements. But if I’m being honest with you, I would literally just buy something where the packaging looked good or the advert that was the biggest. This was about coming back to the basics. What’s been lovely is really looking at the ingredients that go into it, making it plant based, making it as natural as possible, making it premium. Whenever I’m talking to anybody about supplements, I try to use the analogy of. – Alice Levine said this to me – it’s like a cake. Supplements should be like the icing on your cake.” What you eat, how much sleep you get, how much water you’re drinking, the exercise that you do, what you’re reading, what you’re consuming, all of those things are part of this wellness cake. Then your supplement is your icing on that cake. It’s like a bonus, it’s like a top up because, like anything in life, one thing doesn’t fix all things.
It’s a bit like with food, when people say, ‘get your five a day, ‘ you wouldn’t necessarily eat all your fruit and vegetables in one sitting, would you? You would spread it out throughout your day and that’s how supplements are, as well. Maybe in the morning you might have your Immunity supplement after you have your breakfast. Maybe at lunchtime, you might have your Balance or your Focus and after dinner you might have Beauty – we don’t have to over complicate it.
Did you have a wellness epiphany where you realised you needed to look after yourself?
Becoming a mum because the minute you become responsible for another human being, you suddenly go, ‘Okay. I don’t need to become a boring mummy, but I need to be a mindful mum.’ I like to party. I’m always the last one out of the club but essentially having a daughter really just reined me in a little bit because you’re thinking about them first and I realised that it’s only so long that you can party before you burn out whilst juggling work. I had my first daughter at 34 and she was the making of me and that’s why I wanted to name NobleBlu after her because I do everything for my daughters now, they keep me in check, they inspire me and I want to be the best version of myself I can be for them. I want them to grow up in a loving, stable, fun household and so that’s a daily practice for me every day.
When it comes to being an entertainer on our screens or being an entrepreneur in a boardroom – do you go into those rooms to path the way for your daughters?
Yes, of course, because you want your children to feel like anything is possible. I don’t want them to be limited by fear or the world telling them that they can’t do something. It’s so important that they go into the world fearless, because I know when I was growing up I didn’t feel like that at all. I want them to recognise that actually, if they visualise it, why can’t they be it. We are the kind of parents that, like if Azura’s playing Nintendo we’re like, ‘You do know that you could be the person that makes this game!’ We try to get her to think a little bit outside the box, because I remember when I was at school and you’d fill out your career form and there weren’t many options there. Obviously when you get into this industry, you realize how many opportunities and different sorts of career paths there are that you can go down. What I have learned more than anything, it’s not always what you say to your children that really sticks with them, it’s just what you do because then it becomes their normality. Children tend to copy and embody what their parents stand for which wasn’t great for me, by the way, growing up.
