Alexander-Arnold says Arsenal players saw red blurs during Liverpool’s blitz

Arsenal players could see “red blurs” all over the place during Liverpool’s second half blitz.

That is the view of Reds defender Trent Alexander-Arnold who helped himself to a pair of assists as his side returned to winning ways at Anfield and ended the Gunners’ 10-game unbeaten run in the process.

After a tight first-half where Sadio Mane’s goal separated the two teams, the visitors simply couldn’t handle the heat at the beginning of the second half.

Diogo Jota doubled Liverpool’s lead seven minutes after the restart, whilst he and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came close to extending it before Mohamed Salah and Takumi Minamino did so inside the final 20 minutes.

For Arsenal, though, a lot of their downfall was self-inflicted as it was their insistence on playing out from the back that proved costly.

Albert Sambi Lokonga got caught in possession numerous times in the space of a minute, whilst Nuno Tavares was at fault for Jota’s goal as he gifted the ball to his compatriot.

On another day against different opposition, the Gunners may not have been punished as ruthlessly as they were against Liverpool.

However, they came up against a side that, according to Alexander-Arnold, pressed as well as they have in the early minutes second half as they have all season.

“They came with two banks of four very tough to break down but in the end scored the goals and put the game to bed and saw it out with a clean sheet which was always good,” the England international told Sky Sports. “First half we had the aggression but didn’t capitalize but the first minutes of the second half was as good as we’ve played this season pressing wise.

“Completely ran all over them.

“They continued to play out the back but we were all over them all they could see was red blurs all over the place.”

Next up for the north London outfit is a home game against Newcastle United as Mikel Arteta’s side look to bounce back and start a new unbeaten run.
