Alia Bhatt won the Best Actor (Female) trophy for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi at IIFA. Sadly, Alia was not there to accept the award. It was producer Jayantilal Gada who received the award on behalf of her. The actress was not a part of this year’s IIFA as reportedly her maternal grandfather, Narendra Nath Razdan, is unwell.
Alia Bhatt apologises for skipping IIFA
As Alia won Best Actor award, she thanked IIFA and her fans for the love. The actress did not mention anything about her grandfather and wrote, “Thank you so much IIFA. Sorry, I couldn’t be there in person to receive the award. A special thank you to the audience for your constant support. This brings me and the entire team so much joy.”
The International Indian Film Academy Awards (IIFA) took place on Saturday in Abu Dhabi. From Salman Khan, Vicky Kaushal, Abhishek Bachchan, Kriti Sanon, Jacqueline Fernandez, Hrithik Roshan, and Varun Dhawan among others attended the prestigious event.
Alia Bhatt’s grandfather hospitalised
On Saturday, ETimes reported about Alia skipping an award show due to a family emergency. A source was quoted saying, “Mr. Narendra Razdan is Soni Razdan’s father and Alia’s grandfather. He has been in the Breach Candy Hospital for quite some time now. He had a lung infection which got worse. In the morning the family got a distress call that the doctors wanted to shift him to the ICU. There was a decision taken not to take him to the ICU, but to make him comfortable within the room.”
It added, “He’s 95 and as of now he’s in the sunset hours. Alia returned back from the airport because she didn’t want to be there at the award function while her grandfather was going through a very vulnerable time.”
On the work front, Alia has Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. The upcoming film also stars Ranveer Singh, Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Kshitee Jog, Tota Roy Choudhary, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, Anjali Anand, and Namita Das. It will release on 28th July, 2023.
Apart from that, Alia is set to make her Hollywood debut with Heart of Stone.
