All 50 electric vehicles for sale in Canada in 2023

Pop quiz, hotshot: how many all-electric vehicles do you think are on sale in Canada right now? Chances are, it’s a few more than you think. We’ve assembled a list of no fewer than fifty distinct EVs currently available for Canadians to buy or lease, a number which surpassed this author’s initial estimate by more than a dozen.

Some of these models, such as the Rivian R1T and Lucid Air, are not yet widely available in this country, but we have included them since they are officially on sale.

Of the ones on this list, 19 currently qualify for financial largesse from Ottawa and some provincial jurisdictions; they are noted in our list with an iZEV marker. However, be aware there may be cases in which not all trims of a particular model are able to take advantage of government EV incentives. Check the official iZEV site and have discussions with your dealer before signing on the dotted line.

Audi’s been in the EV game for a while, and all of its electric models are sold under its e-tron sub-brand. It’s got a wide variety of body-styles covered; as well as a plethora of price tags, with one model even sneaking in under the incentive threshold.

BMW

BMW’s electric efforts continue to expand, after having kicked off years ago with the compact i3 and the sleek i8 two-door. Look for an ‘i’ in front of the model name, and you’ll find a battery in that Bimmer.

Chevrolet

Chevrolet offers just two electric models for now, but they both qualify for government rebates. Its electric pickup offering, the 2024 Silverado EV, is inbound shortly.

Ford

The first automaker to the electric pickup game in Canada was Ford, with its F-150 Lightning. Don’t discount its Mustang-branded effort, though, the Mach-E, which has been something of a sales success for the automaker.

Genesis

Does it get any simpler than adding “Electrified” to the names of your, well, electrified models? Not for luxury brand Genesis, it doesn’t.

Hyundai

You probably won’t be surprised to hear both of Hyundai’s electric offerings qualify for federal rebates. The Korean automaker has plans to expand its Ioniq sub-brand over the next few years.

Jaguar

Kia

Like sibling Hyundai, Kia’s EVs err on the more-affordable side, generally. But don’t let that economical reputation fool you—some trims of the EV6 can be quite quick little machines, too.

Lucid

Mazda

Mazda’s perhaps a little late to the EV arena, and while it’s just got the one full-EV offering in showrooms now, it wants to try to catch up some.

Mercedes-Benz

You don’t have to have a high EQ IQ to figure out which Benz models are battery-powered. The suffix letter matches the parallel product from the company’s gas-powered ranges, with the EQB lining up with the GLB; the EQS with the S-Class, and so forth.

Nissan

Since its Leaf was one of the first Canadian cars in the EV space, you could call Nissan something of a segment pioneer. It hopes its new Ariya will pick up the torch from that sedan and run with it.

Polestar

Porsche

Don’t look for affordable EVs out of Porsche, but do look for more electrified offerings down the road.

Rivian

Tesla

Would it even be a list of EVs without mention of the brand that arguably mainstreamed the things? Teslas remain some of the most popular electric vehicles for sale today, with two pairs of sedans and SUVs on offer crammed with a host of features.

Toyota

Toyota’s into hybrids, like its popular Prius, in a big way, sure, but its enthusiasm for full-EVs is not quite so strong. The BZ4X shares its underpinnings with Subaru’s Solterra.

VinFast

This Vietnamese automaker is just starting its foray into the Canadian market, and it’s doing so with a pair of EV offerings backed by an interesting battery-lease pricing scheme.

Volkswagen

We’ve talked a lot about Volkswagen’s ID.Buzz on this site, but that modern take on the Microbus is still a few years out for Canadians. VW’s EVs identify themselves via its ID sub-brand.

Volvo

Volvo’s coming hard at fast at the EV segment, its current pair of Recharge offerings just the first volley in a rapidly electrifying line-up of Swedish luxury cars.
