“That was very important for me when I started so I am very lucky that we got to meet Jim [Wight] and Rosie [Page] who are Alf Wight’s children.”
Rachel continued: “Rosie has been brilliant, I think I pester her every series and send her loads of emails trying to get more information.
“But she tells you anecdotes you couldn’t possibly know about how it was growing up and what [Helen] was like as a woman and it’s just been invaluable for me when creating the character.
“There are stories from their Christmases which give me such insight into her as a woman.”
