The new BMW M2 is a second-generation high-performance sports car that offers a thrilling driving experience combined with cutting-edge technology. The compact size, inline 6-cylinder engine, manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and advanced technology all make the new M2 a true driver’s car.
The new M2 is 4.1 inches longer, 1.3 inches wider, and 0.3 inches lower than its predecessor, with a 108.1-inch wheelbase that provides fleet-footed agility and handling that remains easily controllable, even as the driver pushes the limits.
The new BMW M2 has an expressive character that is reflected in its visually powerful design. The car’s athletic proportions, combined with clean surfaces and sculpted forms, accentuate its wide stance and make it clearly different from the BMW 2 Series Coupe. The front of the new M2 is dominated by a wide frameless BMW twin kidney grille with prominent horizontal elements and M-typical three-section lower air intakes that have almost rectangular contours to optimize cooling of the powertrain components and brakes. The headlights are positioned on the outer edges of the front fascia and have a single circular headlight using full-LED technology for both low and high beams. The daytime driving lights take the form of U-shaped light arrangements at the lower edge of the headlights, which also function as the turn signals.
Muscular wheel arches and an optional carbon-fiber roof further emphasize the car’s sporty character. The roofline sloping down from the B-pillar and the short deck lid culminate in a pronounced lip spoiler to complete the look of a compact BMW coupe with clear high-performance abilities. The rear end of the new M2 is defined by pronounced horizontal surfaces, vertically arranged reflectors set deep into the outer edges of the rear apron, and a rear spoiler lip designed to generate additional downforce at the rear axle. The most striking element of the rear end is the pronounced diffuser insert with signature M quad tailpipes.
The new BMW M2 will be available in two solid and three metallic exterior paint shades, including the new Zandvoort Blue available exclusively on the M2. Standard on the M2 are M double-spoke light-alloy wheels in a Jet Black finish, with a bi-color finish as a no-cost option.
Under the hood, the new M2 is powered by an M TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder engine that delivers 453 hp at 6,250 rpm and a peak torque of 406 lb-ft produced between 2,650 and 5,870 rpm. The engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a dynamic 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic. The engine’s power is fed to the road through the rear wheels, providing a traditional driving experience that is enhanced by the latest M TwinPower Turbo technology. The new M2 fitted with the 6-speed manual can hit 60 mph in just 4.1 seconds, while the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission trims that time to just 3.9 seconds.
The new BMW M2 should be a true gem of a sports car that offers a perfect blend of classic high-performance elements and modern technology. Its compact dimensions, powerful engine, manual gearbox, rear-wheel drive, and advanced technology make it a true drivers car.
