Despite an ever-growing list of competition and clones, it remains the king of word-based mobile games.
However, that could be about to change if Scrabble has anything to do about it.
The 84-year-old classic has tried time and again to get into the digital space with varying results, and now it has added a clever twist to its format to beat out the competition.
Formally on top, it thinks this new game is the key to re-take the throne.

In a bid to retake the crown of the world’s biggest word game, Scrabble has launched a new multiplayer version for browsers on PCs and laptops.
On April 13, also known as National Scrabble Day, the company unveiled its new version of the board game.
It is only available on browsers on PC and laptops, but it allows you to play against people from around the world for the first time.
How do you play multiplayer Scrabble?

Essentially, it works the same as the traditional game, only now you can go head-to-head against other players to become the best.
It separates the game from Wordle, which is solely a single player experience, outside of sharing results on social media.
Similar to other word-based games, the aim of Scrabble is to make words.
However, the choice of letters and the length of the words used provide extra points.
Uniquely, you can use the words your opponents have placed to help you complete a word, even if you are missing the letter you need from your own selection.
The online version is completely the same, except the traditional board has been replaced with a digital screen.
